In Act 1, Prospero describes how he educated Caliban and treated him with kindness at first, while Caliban claims he was the island’s rightful ruler before Prospero’s arrival. Based on their exchange in this act, how does Shakespeare introduce the conflict between them, and what does this early portrayal suggest about their struggle for power and legitimacy on the island?

  1. In act 1 Shakespeare shows the problem with Prospero and caliban by letting both of them. they both told there own story Prospero says he was nice to caliban and teached him how to speak and tried to help him but caliban started being disobedient and unfair trying to take control. Caliban says the island was his before Prospero came, so Prospero shouldn’t boss him. There issue is about who has the power to rule the island. Caliban thinks he should rule the island because the island was always his but Prospero thinks he should rule it because he’s educated. they both will have problems against each other.
