The setting of sonnys blues is important it shows the struggles and difficulties of the life there is there with drugs and not many opportunities and how it can be dangerous This affects how sonny feels and why he does drugs and stuff, because he’s limited to opportunities. it was not just him who had a limited future but the rest of the people too but music helped him feel saved.
The narrator and sonny are very distant and not connected at first because they do not understand each other. The narrator doesn’t understand why sonny does the choices he picks and gets stressed by that later in the story they do come to a understanding. instead of judging like he did at first he ended up understanding him.
Sonny’s music is his safe place, what gives him hope and makes him feel like he has a purpose. but that is a temporary feeling the pain he is going through never leaves him. Can it music really just help change someone’s life or just help it?.
